Brad and I have always been very fortunate. We both have amazing families, we were raised in the same small town, have lots of wonderful friends whom have always been there for us and supported us...well, we are just BLESSED! There is really no other word for it.
Since we decided to move out here, there was much trepidation to say the least. Many family members were sad that we were going to be so far away but knew that this was what we wanted and they supported us...even though their hearts were saddened. Many of our friends thought we were crazy, lucky, adventurous and well, just "Being Angel and Brad". But nonetheless, we were supported!
Now that we are here we can honestly say that we have been blessed with 2 more spectacular friends. You have heard me talk about them many times. Their names are Tess and Ranyon. They have 2 little girls...Arielle, who is Jake's age and the new love of his life, and Alena, who is 4 days younger than our little Graybird. They are both dolls! Well, Tess invited us to Alena's baptism which took place this past Friday morning at the Catholic Church in Jackson. I have been wanting to attend a service at that church for a while so it was such a coincidence when she asked us to join them. It was the perfect ceremony...Alena was baptized with both sets of her grandparents alongside her parents and her sister. We attended as well as another friend and her 2 daughters. It was such a sweet and loving ceremony. The kids were able to really understand what was going as the Deacon explained everything very well and involved the children as much as possible. My little Jake even got to help hold the Deacon's book as he baptized Alena.
After the ceremony, we were invited to join Tess and Ranyon and their folks for lunch at a quaint little restaurant in Jackson. The food was delicious, the conversation was perfect and the friends...well, you just couldn't ask for better. Both of their parents are wonderful people and you can just see how proud they are of their family. After lunch, we went on a sleigh ride thru the Elk Refuge in Jackson with Tess, the girls and Tess's Mom and Dad. We had never done this before and thought it might be fun for the boys to see. We drive by the Refuge often and sort of take for granted the elk because they are always there...from about October to March. Well, this was an experience that ranks as my second best adventure since we moved out here (the first being the sound of the elk bugaling in Yellowstone and the bull herding in his family...that will stay in my heart forever!!!). We were amongst one herd of elk that was about 1000 head. We were on a wagon that was pulled by these two gorgeous horses names Daisy and Duke. Our driver was a hoot. He gave us great information about the Refuge and made the trip very entertaining and educational. The elk were breathtaking! If you ever get a chance to visit this place and the elk are in the refuge, I HIGHLY recommend you venturing over there to get a close look at the elk.
We also drove past the refuge a little ways and saw the big horn sheep. They were right down by the road! Some were even crossing the road. They are lovely animals as well and I am so grateful that the boys (as well as Brad and I) are able to see some these sites that we probably would not see in Kentucky. That being said, there is nothing more beautiful than seeing the horses in Kentucky coming out of a cloud of fog in the early morning, the hills of Eastern KY in the fall when the leaves are changing colors, or the site of my boys playing in the yard at my Momma's house in West Virginia...just to name a few. Yes, I miss home...KY will always be home. I certainly enjoy life out here and all the experiences we are having, but I am ready for a visit back home (May is only a couple of months away :-)).
To finish up this entry, I want to thank Tess, Ranyon and their families for sharing such a special day with us. They are great friends and we are fortunate to have them in our lives. They befriended us right from the start and we love them dearly. It was a truly BLESSED day!!!!
